Starbucks Faux Pas - What not to order
NOTE: Names have been replaced by numbers due to 3 of them having the same first name.
I orchestrated (and it was a grand gathering that had to be coordinated immensely) a lunch between me and a friend up here in Chicago. We work for the same company but in different buildings. Normally, not a big deal, but he invited one other guy (we will call him Third). And then Third invited Fourth. I went and invited Fifth. Second invited Sixth and Seventh.
What started our as two friends going to lunch became a queerum (queerum = a gathering of more then 5 gay men who can then make decisions only by democratic vote or the usurping of self anointing Mother Queens that want to try to hold court during lunch). After a day and a half of organizing schedules, we finally decided on this afternoon at a restaurant between the two buildings.
We sat there and had a glorious time cutting up, chatting and making snide comments about past deeds. Since there were so many of us, we pulled the three tables together and huddled in our corner eating and laughing. The roaming manager / air headed smiling person / I am not sure what my job title is person came walking up to ask if our meal was alright. It was actually good, much better then I expected. then she uttered, "Oh my, look at that, you just made yourself a long table by pulling those three together. Aren't you ingenious?"
As I quickly scanned the group, we all had in place our "customer service - polite beyond belief" smile that would disarm anyone and waited for her to be on her way. Third piped up as she left, "Yeah, us gays, inventors of the modular furniture. Can't take us anywhere or we will redecorate." The rest of the lunch went downhill and into the sewer but with no remarkable statements after that one.
Heading back to the office, we all stopped in the Starbucks next door and had our orders in while we stood around bs-ing a little more. As we were waiting, the barrista called out Fourth's order, "Two Tea Bagger African Red Bush"
There was a noticeable pause in the conversation for 3 seconds and then the laughing started. I walked out of the store, Fifth or Sixth (not sure which) snorted his ice tea through his nose. Fourth stood there beet red. And the rest scattered. The ending to a nice lunch and start of a great three day weekend.
